  • I certainly felt like my patient at least really began to improve and enjoy himself only after he understood that we actually cared about him as a person, what he wanted from life, and his success as a whole being.”

  • Don’t be afraid to have this kind of relationship with your patients. They tell you to try not to, that you’ll get burnt out. but when you’re giving this much, they’ll give back just as much. And that kind of a relationship doesn’t burn you out.”

  • It was great coming to the camp and learning more about physical therapy, but what I will always remember most is my patient. My patient was one that did not use many words but that made our bond stronger and I learned so much from him. He taught me patience, strength, compassion… I could go on and on but no words can really express the gratitude that I have for having the opportunity to work with and get to know him. Stroke camp was the experience of a lifetime and I am forever grateful to be part of the FORU family.”

  • I saw how beautiful humans could be to one another. Background, socioeconomic status and culture doesn’t matter, but instead love and compassion for others is the most important thing to have.”

  • Something that I keep very close to my heart and try to think about or say each day is the first few lines of the Serenity Prayer. I have found this blessing to help me through many hard times in my life and I think it has the ability resonate with people from many different backgrounds. It so eloquently speaks to the challenges and hardships in our lives and our abilities to overcome them. Each day the patients arrived with huge smiles and bright spirits ready to work hard. Seeing them work so hard to achieve their goals this past week has been a true inspiration to me and I am so very grateful for this experience.”

  • “Come broken. Leave healed. It (stroke camp) was like a storybook.”

  • I have always believed that God brings people into our lives to help us grow and learn in ways no one else can. I believe God brought C (patients name) into my life to help me better understand what I am asking from my patients and how to address unrealistic expectations in a way that meets the patient exactly where they are.”
